Sheltie Nation

Cuteness GOLD!

We competed in the inaugural Doggie Olympics 2011—an event to benefit Salt Lake County Animal Services—and Aggie won a gold and silver medal plus the prestigious Best In Show award. There were about 40 competitors. Aggie won the gold in “Over, Under, and Through” and then tacked on a silver medal in “Best Trick.”

Not bad for an 11-year-old girl!

We’ll be back next year to defend her title!Above photos by Gallivan Photography

We can’t wait to hear how she does Ken!

  1. Go Aggie! Congrats! Wonderful example of keeping young by being active. It would be great to see a video next year. She is so cute in her photo and would be great so see her in action. LOVE the photo of you two together… such love and devotion. Warms my heart.

    • Thanks, Gloria. My sister actually took some home video. I’ll have to edit out the non-action parts and submit it. She is truly my little sweetheart.

  2. Congratulations!

  3. Just look at how proud she looks wearing her medals! They know, don’t they? You go girl!!

    • Yes they do. She was a diva before this. Now she is impossible to live with. I can’t just call her “Aggie,” I have to call “Hey Aggie, gold medalist and Best in Show winner! Come eat your dinner!” ;)

  4. The heart of a competitor! Aggie, you rock! Love seeing the older dogs shine. They are precious. Congratulations.

    • Thanks, Sharon. I am sooooo competitive. We were shut out of our first four events….one due to a judging controversy! What Olympics would be complete without a judging controversy? But we had the last laugh with winning Best In Show.

  5. Congrats from another Salt Lakr Sheltie mom! she is gorgeous!

  6. AGGIE IS THE MICHAEL PHELPS OF DOGGIE COMPETITION OUT OF THE WATER !!! CONGRATULATIONS AGGIE FOR A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE ! AND AT AGE 11, YOU ARE AGELESS – YOU LOOK ALMOST LIKE A PUPPY IN THE FACE. YOU ARE ONE BEAUTIFUL, ATHLETIC SHELTIE !! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR NEXT COMPETITION !!!!

    • Thanks! It was even an Olympics with a judging controversy! In one event (Obedience Baseball) a judge told me I could use “verbal only” commands. Aggie is trained in hand signals. At “second base” she took longer to lie down with me barking orders at her. In subsequent heats, I saw dog owners using their hands. I “protested” and found out later that owners COULD use their hands…just not touch their dog! We may have had another medal but we were jobbed by the “Russian judge”! We got the last laugh with Best In Show!!!

  7. Congrates to both you and Aggie, She’s still looking like a chipper young thing at 11.

  8. Beautiful little girl. My baby is 14 years old and still has a sparkle in her eyes. She moves slow but with meds, perks up like a puppy.

    • That’s great! I do everything possible to keep Aggie healthy. She’s never been overweight (the most she’s weighed was 15 pounds and now she’s about 13.9). I buy her “human grade” food (Merrick) since I’m too lazy to actually make her own food. She gets vitamins and fish oil in her food. Yeah, she gets “garbage” treats a couple of times a day. I don’t like giving them, but she demands it. I think she’s part of a canine labor union that mandates treats!

  9. GO AGGIE!! Congratulations!

  10. What a total cutie pie!!! Congratulations!

  11. She is one beautiful dog , she must be some healthy still compeating at 11 yrs wow!

    • Yes…she is 11 going on 2! I take her to DogMode (a super dog daycare facility in Salt Lake). She never sits or lies down. She walks and stand, and walks and stands, and walks for 8 hours. I have to tell them to put her in a kennel with some water for an hour or so. I don’t know if she thinks she has to “herd” all the other dogs or what. She’s a hoot!
