Sheltie Nation Fundraiser for Petunia
Tri-State Sheltie Rescue needs help for a wonderful Sheltie that came to them this week. Her name is Petunia and she needs a CT scan and surgery that will cost an estimated $4,000. They believe that this little girl deserves to have this surgery so she can live a normal life for whatever years she may have left.
Petunia is approximately nine years old and came from a shelter in PA where she was dumped. Petunia was in horrid condition. She had severe flea infestation and flea dermatitis causing her to lose patches of hair. Her nails were so long that they curled under her paws making walking very difficult and painful. Her ears were so badly infected with yeast and pus that they could not see inside her ear canals. They are both completely blocked with such an infection that they think Petunia may be deaf due to this. Her teeth are also in terrible shape and she needs to be spayed.
But this is not why the rescue is seeking help. The reason they need help is that Petunia has two tumors growing out of her vulva. One is about half the size of a woman’s palm! Upon examination by the vet, they feel that the stem of this tumor is in Petunia’s urethra and therefore she needs a CT Scan and a specialized surgeon to remove it. The tumors are already inhibiting her ability to urinate properly. If the tumors are not removed, they will continue to grow causing severe pain and discomfort and sadly, Petunia will have to be euthanized. (You can see more photos of Petunia on her page here.)
It is quite evident that little Petunia has been neglected and treated poorly her entire life. She was most likely used as a breeder dog that could no longer produce and was thrown away. She holds no bad feelings for the life she has been forced to live. All you have to do is touch her and her little tail wags with delight!
Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciate and help them get to the goal of $4000 so Petunia may have this life saving surgery.
