An “Irish” Sheltie prayer…

“Here is a photo I took of my friend Dale and her ‘Irish’ Sadie girl – my blue merle Sheltie. Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!

Sadie was a rescue from Sheltie Haven in Maryland. We got her when she was about 6 years old and she just turned 14 last month.  I thought you might like to hear how I got her.”

“When I went to get Sadie at Sheltie Haven they had altogether 14 Shelties and 1 Border Collie. All were young and feisty – except for Sadie. I watched as all of the Shelties ran around and played, but not Sadie. There was Sadie in the farthest corner of the fenced yard, literally hiding under a bush! She was terrified. I asked if I could meet her. Afterwards she ran back under the bush and I went to stand on the deck. The foster mom explained that Sadie was very afraid of the other dogs. I was left alone alone for a few minutes while the foster mom went inside to answer the phone.”

“In the meantime all of the Shelties were running around at my feet, barking, playing, jumping and trying to get my attention. I saw Sadie in the far corner of the yard still under the bush. I closed my eyes and prayed that if she was the right one for me to adopt, that God would bring her up on the deck. I really didn’t expect that to happen because she was so afraid of the other dogs but still I prayed. Standing there I felt a little paw on my leg scratching very lightly. I opened my eyes and looked down. It was Sadie! She wagged her tail just a little and looked at me with those oh so expressive Sheltie eyes. She had one blue eye and one brown eye and they looked like they were smiling. My prayer was answered and I started crying. She was the one. She was mine.”

“I still smile and get teary eyed when I think about that day, feeling Sadie paw at my pant leg and looking up at me. She braved all of those younger Shelties just to get to me – so I would know she was the one I was supposed to take home. I’m so glad I did. Sadie is a sweetheart.”

What an awesome story, Debora!
