As many of you know I lost my beloved Dory yesterday. I have posted a few new pictures, of her smile. No other dog I have had could smile like she could, over all she was a very happy dog. I called her “princess Dory, although my parents called her that little “bitch” or “queen”. Dory came to us a few years ago, along with Noah, who where hand-me downs. Dory was at times a little bossy, and could be a little bit of a bully. More than once, she took the rawhide bone from Buddy (our Golden Retriever who died last year), while it was in his mouth, and he was chewing on it (Buddy did not like that, and let her know it). She once bit Noah on the back and he had to get stitches. But over all, at least to me was a sweet little dog. She had a shrill high pitched bark (a female voice, like an alto). Last week it was evident she was not feeling well, and we took her to the vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight, and was having bowel problems. The vet ran some blood work, and when we came back later to pick her up, he said the good news was she had whip worms — a lot of them — but it could be treated. However, the bad news was, she was in chronic renal failure. She must have known, because she pretty much gave up after we brought her home. She would simply lie by the backdoor, and not move. Saturday night, after dad and I came home we need to put Noah out, but she was in the way. I picked her up and held her for five to ten minutes, cuddling and kissing her on the top of her head. I could feel her heart, and her labored breathing, but I think there was a slight tail wag. I laid her down in front of the dryer. I had a feeling — a rather bad feeling — she would not last the night. Sunday morning, when I let Noah up, my dad told me she was gone. I came up and said good-bye, then went down stairs and cried. I would cry for a few minutes, only to start again a little later. I later came back up stairs, with a black blanket and a laundry basket. I carefully wrapped her up, and laid her to rest. We took her to the vet this morning, and hopefully I will get her ashes by the end of the week. I will miss my little girl, and that beautiful Dory Smile.
