Mac Attack II

Mac arrived in our lives on 2011 Christmas Eve, a present from one of my daughters. Who would have thought that tiny little fluffball would turn into my wonderfully patient and sensitive 54 lb “Sheltie-zilla?”

He made it so easy to look like a wonderful trainer. Mac took to life as a great champion for the underdog. Whenever we went to the dog park to practice our recall, fetch, whatever, he would always be watching out for the smaller dogs that were getting picked on. More often then not, he’d break off from training to run over to intervene, give the more dominant dogs a stiff talking to, escort the smaller dog to a safe place, then run back to resume our training session. He rightfully earned the nickname, Mr. Play Police.

After our retirement, Mac acted as MacNanny to his baby dog cousin, a nurse aid during our several surgeries over the years, a glucose monitor backup system, our replacement front doorbell, a goodwill ambassador to friends and neighbors at our family get togethers, a sterling example of good manners for his visiting doggie friends, and an all-around great little guy.

He still walk the halls at night … I hear his nails clicking on the hardwood floors, and I’ve heard him bark in the middle of the night to alert me to check my blood sugar.

Boy,oh boy, do I still miss him. RIP, Mr. Mac.
