Shelby

Shelby was my amazing little companion for almost 14 years. I remember the trip north of Detroit to pick out my pup and he wasn’t the original pick. This little guy that stayed to the edges and watched quietly was over looked, but I decided to check him out and the original pick to see who interacted. The other pup ran and played with the other puppies but little Shelby played with me. Staying in the motel on the way home, he slept on the bed with me and managed to poop on the pillow. He was so small, at 3 months old he was 5 lbs. The vet check said he had an enlarged heart. Next thing was that he seemed to be hypoglycemic and I just made sure he got fed close to bed time. Little guy had sensitive feet and one time we stopped to let him go potty on a trip he ran across the deep snow when his feet froze so he laid down. I wasn’t prepared to go through deep snow, but ran out to get him. One trip as a puppy in a big truck somehow ended up with him being on top of my head and momentarily covering my eyes, and the same trip he had gotten in to my purse and was chewing up a $20 bill but I couldn’t safely pull over to get that stopped. The trip to GA to deliver where he would stick his nose in the AC vent for a while and then touch his nose to my arm, he liked that game. He was always with me and until the last few years loved going for a ride. His enthusiasm wasn’t appreciated by most people but he had a great time.
I know he will always be with me but I do miss him very much. I hope every day will get a little easier. I will remember my enthusiastic little boy that was an obedience champ and an agility screwup. I’m grateful he is no longer in pain.
