Tale of Tavish

By |August 24, 2009|Categories: Shelties|Tags: , , |

Tavish is my parent’s Sheltie.  They are retired, and he has become their child.  When he does well in agility or obedience training, he is allowed to watch “his shows” on the guest room television.  He can watch the Disney Channel, the Cartoon Network, or Animal Planet, as long “Animal Cops” are not on.  My parents don’t want him seeing neglected and sick pets; they think it would be traumatizing. Tavish’s favorite shows are: “It’s Me or the Dog” (Bad dogs learn obedience and become good dogs. It is believed Tavish likes that show because he can really follow the [...]

Don’t be afraid to adopt a Sheltie

A little over a year ago we rescued the most friendly little Sable boy from the Northern Chesapeake Sheltie Rescue in Maryland.  Beau had been abandoned because is previous owner couldn't handle his special needs. When Beau came to live with us he was timid and cowered at the smallest sound. He was also very under weight and wouldn't eat his food unless I hand fed him. After a few months with Beau we found out that he has OCD.  We have been working on training him and giving him the right medication to help him live a normal puppy [...]

So my wife found an appropriately monogrammed shirt (“Here comes trouble”) and a pair of pants, which Sunny thoroughly enjoyed parading around the house in and which did an excellent job [...]

Sheltie love never dies

By |May 10, 2009|Categories: Shelties|Tags: , , , , |

Loosing a Sheltie is never easy, but it seems somehow the dog we have lost's personality peaks through in other dogs we love. My beloved, stunningly beautiful AND willful blue-merle Sheltie sole/soul mate, Pansy, suddenly died & joined her 'Daddee' (my late husband) in heaven this past Mother’s Day – eight years TO THE DAY that I received her as my 7-week old first-ever baby.  A few days after her passing it literally tore my heart out to see deer confidently grazing not only in “her” wooded back yard but at her fiercely guarded FRONT yard! Unable to exist without Sheltie [...]
