You go Girl!

By |June 14, 2012|Categories: Rescued Shelties|Tags: , , |

Daisy, a rescue who weighed 64 pounds and was going to be euthanized in May, 2010, has come to her fur-ever home. She has lost half her body weight and now is a qualified service dog. She has an amazing story, and was featured on CNN in January in a story about obese pets for her weight loss. Daisy's story is an inspiration to all who want to rescue a dog. An example of a little girl who escaped death to go on to have a happy and productive second chance at life. Daisy is also not shy of the [...]

What a “Treasure”

By |May 31, 2012|Categories: Adopt a Sheltie|Tags: , , , |

Sick, senior or special needs Shelties require extra veterinary care.  Often, these dogs are the first to be euthanized at shelters.  Rescuing these dogs has become the focus of Sheltie Rescue Alternative, Inc. Treasure is a "furever foster" at the rescue. He was pulled from a kill shelter just before last Thanksgiving at around age 15. Here he is, six months later, doing well and enjoying every day! To inquire about adoptions, volunteering or to make a tax-deductible donation, you can visit their website. Hugs for all you do for these special needs Shelties, Eva!

Maine Sheltie Rescue has a Sheltie in foster care that has experienced sudden onset paralysis on May 6. (This means he has lost the use of his back legs.) Max is a 3 year old double merle that is deaf and sight impaired. He's having all sorts of test done right now and the rescue is working hard on fund raising to cover his expenses. Right now he needs extensive testing, physical therapy and maybe even a wheelchair, all of which will cost rescue between $1600 and $5000, depending on his needs. Max is not available for adoption at this [...]

Bella: Kansas Sheltie Rescue

By |April 10, 2012|Categories: Adopt a Sheltie|Tags: , , , |

Isn't Bella beautiful?  Little 3 year old Bella is available for adoption at Sheltie Shack Rescue of Kansas.  She's just a tiny, 15 lb. girl, but is ready to settle into a home environment and become a cherished family member! She was rescued from a puppy mill where she lost one of her back feet. (She is missing her right rear foot just above the ankle.) Bella doesn't even realize it's gone and gets around splendidly. The rescue is hoping applicants look past her minor glitch and don't hold the slight visual affect against her. It certainly doesn't slow her [...]

And VOILÀ, happy ending!

Juke came into Second Chance Sheltie Rescue a year ago from a hoarding situation and he was my foster dog.  Only ONE person was interested in him in the 8 months he was in rescue! I think people were put off by his eye, but you wouldn't even know he has anything wrong with it.  (Juke has one brown and one blue eye. However, his blue eye can't really be seen due to a birth defect and he's partially blind in that eye.) He gets around just fine.   He has the cutest, sweetest, friendliest personality and I couldn't resist [...]
